November 2010

You want to make a change. You want to be a beacon of light and strength. You want to make a difference but your probably thinking…Where do I start?

Let’s be honest, in most cases CHANGE is not easy. Having a lasting impact on another person’s life is a pretty lofty goal. Don’t get me wrong, it is possible if you are willing to commit to a few key attributes.

#1 Be Honest

I can say, without a moment’s hesitation, that the people who have impacted my life the most are the ones that told me the truth consistently. There were literally occasions where I didn’t want to ask certain people for their opinion because I knew they would just sugar-coat the situation, pat me on the back, and tell me, “You’ll figure it out.” After one of those pep talks I would still be in the same situation with a false sense of hope. I needed to be challenged. There are people in your life that are craving the same thing… Are you challenging them or enabling them by offering a false sense of hope?

#2 Be Available

If you want to be a mentor you have to make time. Saying you want to be a positive force for CHANGE is nice but you will not be measured by your good intentions. Results is what drives ever facet of our world. Results are not possible without a time commitment. There will be times when the goals you’ve set for yourself will cause unexpected interruptions to your regular life. There may even be nights where you’ll sit back and wonder, “Am I doing too much?” Fret not, the most powerful advocates for CHANGE surrendered everything to see their goals realized. I’m not asking you to give your life. I’m just asking you to check, before you quit,  is the job finished? If so, move on with confidence. If not, make yourself available to see the CHANGE through until the end.

“Our Fingerprints never fade from the lives we touch.”

Quote by Ghandi

#3 Be Transparent

Everybody has a past. Nobody that has walked this earth has done so without a story a.k.a. testimony. Your testimony is your strength. It is a hedge of protection you can offer someone. It is a word of warning. It can also be a ray of hope. It just depends on what status the person you are talking to is in. Quite frankly, if God wanted perfect people to CHANGE the world HE would have let the angels do it by themselves. Instead God enlist the frail hands of people like you and me. However, God expects us to be willing to occasionally show our flaws. It is the flaws, missteps, and struggles that we have overcome that, if used correctly, become our greatest asset. I’m not saying tell everyone every gory detail of your life. I’m just saying be willing to share when you have the tugging feeling that you’re supposed to give a little piece of yourself to someone in the form of your life story. Own your past and it will help you shape the future of your life and those that you touch.

And they overcame by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony;

Drop of water

The planet in which we live on is full of billions of people. There are people of all different races, nationalities, cultures, and religions who co-exist, some peacefully and others with malice and hate in their heart, to make up the unique environment and place we call home.

Although I like to believe that my lone actions have the power to change the world, I have realized they are just a drop of water in the vast ocean of life. My drop, though meaningful, might make a small ripple but I want to make waves.  I want to make waves of change, waves of encouragement, and waves of endless possibilities that resonate and connect with the very people who desperately need them.

What do I mean? I want to improve the world. There is something that I have to give. There is information that I have that can change your life. There is a person I know that I have to introduce to everyone but all I am is a “drop.” The good news is I am not alone. I have found out a great secret that will change the way I operate while I am still breathing on this planet. If you want to make the world a better place, if you want to change the hearts and minds of people to do more and to be more, and if you dare to be a person that demands the best for yourself and future generations I have a great tip for you.

BECOME A SERVANT

This week the writers of A Spark Starts will be sharing with you stories of enlightenment, encouragement and challenging you to become a servant by telling you of the benefits of building a community of change.

To change the world we have to learn to combine our “drop” with the “drops” of others and create one big splash to make waves. You are in for a treat.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

If you are anything like me you are probably stuffing yourself full of turkey and preparing to watch the Lions lose on national television. 🙂

Have a safe and happy holiday! Go Lions

Patience, Patience, Patience

How long are you willing to wait? If you asked me that question I would honestly answer you, not long. I want what I want when I want it and I wanted it 2 hours ago. I hate being stuck in traffic because it takes to long to get home after work. I hate waiting […]
